It’s a ‘Carousel Text’, where you can jump in at the point of any sub-section and the narrative still works. You can jump off too, and you probably will. It’s the perfect structural form to capture the colourful carousel of characters (and there are so many whirling on it) who sent me spinning at Wraith Club.

The subsections could be read in the order they appear in the title. ‘Individuals, Eccentrics, Weirdos, Monsters, Pests, Creeps, and Alfreds’ doesn’t in any way apply to the people I met there, but relates to the various roles I found myself inhabiting, owing to my conversational blunders.

As an extended study of shame-faced self-deprecating irony, any jokes, bad ones mostly, are at my own expense, not yours.

As the chosen literary form is a confession narrative, it permits me to not only plead forgiveness for my conversational errors but also allows me to boast sinfully about them…
